I've owned both!!!!
I had a Chi for years and it broke one day on me...used a no name straightener for awhile but finally decided I wanted a nice one again. I researched the hell out of straighteners and found that the Chi only has ceramic coated plates and the Sedu has full ceramic plates. (Basically meaning the Chi is going to be a lot more harsh on your hair!!) The Sedu is definitely your best bet! I have somewhat wavy hair and it only takes me about 2 mins to fully straighten my whole head - and I use one of the lowest heat settings. The Sedu is nice cuz it does have a ton of different heat settings to adapt to each persons needs. For your thick and curly hair, I'd say turn the heat up a bit higher!
The best price I was able to find was 95 dollars at Folica.com Make sure you order it on a day when they are running a 20 or 25% off special. Mine was like 160 and all the specials they had going knocked it down to 95 - plus I got a free heating pad! Definitely shop around, but like I said that's the best I found!!
Good luck!

The Chi company used to be very good and one of the best but it recently in the last couple of years got bought out by another company and how the flat irons themselves aren't very good.

My hair is very think curly and frizzy.
It immediatly gets rid of the curls, frizziness and it stays straight all day.
I know alot of professional stylist use the Chi.
I have been recommended the Chi several times before i got it.
I don't know of the other brand.
But good luck.
Hope i helped. :)
